He has just turned 35 but Mas still believes he is the best player alive and hopes to be able to convince him to join one day.

When asked if he wanted to bring Messi to the club, Mas said: “Well, you see, both David Beckham and I aspire to bring the best players in the world here to Miami, not just because of the project we have create.
“We want to be the reference point for football in the United States, but when you talk about the best players in the world, Leo is obviously the best player in the world.
“Hopefully the conditions will be met for him to be there and play with the United States Inter Miami jersey. That’s what we aim for.

“I hope the circumstances are right. We didn’t guarantee anything, there’s no deal, but I’m a very optimistic man and I hope Leo Messi can be part of our project in the future.’
He added: “There are a lot of Catalans here: Xavi Asensi, Víctor Oliver, who just came here from Barcelona to raise issues for the future.
“We’re going to build a new stadium… I was at Laporta for a long time last night. And nothing, it’s an honor to see Barcelona category clubs here and it’s my aspiration that Inter Miami has close ties with this type of club.
