Independiente star Fernandez had hoped to make headlines after coming on as a substitute in the first half of their game in Primera Division.
However, the 31-year-old wasn’t expecting to go viral after he was hit in the face with a raw fish while playing for the Argentina side.
The incident happened just after the start of the second half and it is said to have been a Racing Club fan who threw the draft horse.
The fish hit the player on the left side of his face. It seemed painful as he immediately fell to the ground, clutching his cheek.

As a result, a medical trolley with a stretcher was driven onto the field to treat the player.
Fernandez was carried off the pitch shortly after and underwent several further check-ups by the club’s medical team.
The 31-year-old was deemed fit enough to continue and returned to the pitch to wrap up the second half of the game.
Still, Fernandez will take some time to recover from the embarrassment as fans flock to social media to mock him.
