Wild footage shows the moment Victorian police officers were forced to fend off an angry father with a baseball bat.
Senior Constable Rowan Baldman and Constable William Ringin bravely fought Steven John Cleary in hand-to-hand combat, despite the clear danger to their lives.
Shocking footage released in Victoria Circuit Court on Wednesday shows Cleary attacking officers with the bat, which had been placed in a black bag, in Warrnambool on the state’s southwest coast on October 9 last year.

Moments earlier, police officers had attempted to identify Cleary’s son, who had been stopped for blocking traffic and not wearing a mask under Victoria’s strict pandemic restrictions at the time.
In bizarre scenes, the 15-year-old can be seen calling his father via walkie-talkie.
“That’s 3-7-7. I have some coppers over here. You’re trying to intimidate me. I’m on Megennon Street. Come down,” he says to his father.

When Cleary arrives at the scene of the crime, he tells his son to go home.
When the police tell Cleary to back off, his son grabs Constable Ringin’s gun, causing all hell to break loose.
The video shows Cleary swinging the bat at Senior Constable Baldam and throwing him to the ground.
Crouched in the fetal position, Cleary repeatedly buckles his head.
Concerned that his partner might be killed, Constable Ringin attacks the thug, who beat him several times before disarming him.

As the fight continued, police claim Cleary managed to grab a discarded taser and fire it into Constable Ringin’ ballistic vest as he rushed towards him.
The officer simultaneously managed to punch Cleary, causing him to fall to the ground, still clutching the gun.
Cleary was still holding the taser when Constable squirted Ringin OC foam right in his face to disarm him.
As Cleary was tied up, he murmured, “Gentleman. I am the king. hands off me I am the king. You are a Roman dog and that is an act of war. He said, “In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I command you to come down from me.”
‘In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I command you to come off me.’
Senior Constable Baldam suffered injuries to his body that required plastic surgery.
Cleary was taken to the hospital and then to prison, where he has remained ever since.
The brazen thug has pleaded guilty to three counts, including assaulting a police officer, assault and assault.
He faces up to 10 years in prison on Friday.
