Conservative MPs voted in the fourth round of their leadership contest, eliminating the right wing Kemi Badenoch out of the race.
Former Chancellor Rishi Sunak again led the vote with the support of 118 MPs, while Portsmouth MP Penny Mordaunt beat Liz Truss for second place by a vote of 92 to 86.
But Secretary of State Ms Truss received more transfers from eliminated candidate Tom Tugendhat than Ms Mordaunt, earning 15 votes to her opponent’s 10.
Mr Sunak received three votes and Ms Badenoch only one.
The table after the third round looks like this:
Rishi Sunak – 118 votes
Penny Mordaunt – 92 votes
Liz Truss – 86 votes
The eliminated candidate is:
Kemi Badenoch – 59 votes
MPs will vote again and will continue to eliminate more candidates until only two remain.
The last two will be made available to the broader base of Tory membership who will choose the new leader – who will become Britain’s new Prime Minister.
