Nicholas Cruzthe man convicted of shooting dead 17 people and wounding 17 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School parkland, Floridaon February 14, 2018, will be sentenced for his crimes beginning Monday July 18.
Cruz, a former student at the school, was just 19 when he went on a rampage in one of America’s deadliest school shootings US Story.
He then turned himself in to police and pleaded guilty to 17 counts of first-degree murder and 17 counts of attempted murder.
Cruz was a member of the school’s air rifle team who had been expelled for his disciplinary record.
He had arrived at the school with a legally purchased AR-16 semi-automatic rifle and shot 14 students and three staff members.
The shooting sparked a nationwide protest movement calling for stricter gun control measures.
While prosecutors are asking for Cruz’s death penalty, his attorneys are hoping for a life sentence.
